Known as the “die Schwarze Wand” or “the black wall” this beautiful face lays sits in the Arlberg region of Austria.
On a big snow fall season most of the chutes are accessible but in others there are stories of riders being cliffed out and having to boot back out. A bit of local knowledge will help to avoid this fate.
This is a full day adventure with a challenging ridge walk to grain access. Normally accessed from the ski area of Sonnenkopf and then off Obermuribahn, touring will take you around Omesspitze and then up Eisentaler East where you can access the east facing slopes of die Schwarze Wand.
The route up Eisentaler East requires a fair bit of boot packing up a short steap section and then up the west facing ridge. This can often be icy and is a no fall zone. Boot Campons can help with the less experienced
The photo is taken from the opposite peak of Kaltenberg, east of Eisentaler.
